Please take time to read the following information and discuss it with others if you wish. Ask if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. May I take this opportunity to thank you for taking time to read this.
1. What is the purpose of the project?
The main objective of the project is to enhance students’ language learning experience by encouraging them to interact in the target language with international students who are learning the same language under different conditions. The project will broaden participants’ global vision by encouraging the students to look at different practices in Hong Kong and Europe and will enhance their communicative skills in the target language that they are learning.
2. Why have I been chosen?
You will be reading and gathering information on aspects about the city where you live, and you will share your findings with students from other countries. The information you gather will also help you and your project teammates towards your work on the community project and preparation of a portfolio. The material produced throughout the project will be used in future as model or reference for new students who will be participating in future cycles of this project. As part of our research we will study and analyse the content of the material that you have produced in different parts of the project.
3. Do I have to take part?
Participation on this project is entirely voluntary, so please do not feel obliged to take part. Refusal will involve no penalty whatsoever and you may withdraw from the project at any stage. We would only request you to notify your instructor in the event that you decide to withdraw.
4. What do I have to do?
Throughout the project you will produce a variety of written material, including compositions (essays), entries in the forum, research report and reflections. We request access to the written material, your permission to use it as reference and for future research; we may also approach you from time to time for enquiries on the material you have produced and for comments.
5. Are there any disadvantages to taking part?
There should be no foreseeable disadvantages to your participation. If you are unhappy or have further questions at any stage in the process, please address your concerns initially to the researcher if this is appropriate.
